For the past several years, I have monitored NOPD’s private spy network. Project NOLA has thousands of cameras tracking innocent New Orleanians all over the city. I’ve made a tremendous number of public records requests to NOPD. One of the goals is to capture communication between NOPD and Project NOLA documenting violations of New Orleans City law or NOPD policy.
In July 2025, I provided NOPD Public Integrity Bureau (PIB) with hundreds of violations. Finally in November, PIB completed investigation 2025-0608-P. They found that Sr Police Officer Nicholas Hairston violated city policy against using live facial recognition (LFR) technology.
This is the first time a NOPD officer has been held accountable for spying on New Orleans. It’s my first and only complete investigation. I have dozens of other complaints in queue and THOUSANDS of emails to still process.
