NOPD is Still Using FRT, Still Lying, and Now Covering It Up — Part 2

In Part 1, I introduced you to my complaint against NOPD for illegally spying on New Orleans using facial recognition technology (FRT). We move on to bullet point 2: SGT Cherny.

This one is spectacular. Sarah Cherny is NOPD’s most prolific user of facial recognition technology. I don’t think detective Cherny works a case without contacting Project NOLA.

There’s a screenshot of Det Cherny literally receiving an FRT alert from Project NOLA.

On bullet 2, NOPD doesn’t identify which complaint of Sgt Cherny’s abuse of FRT. Let’s stick with the earlier complaint date of Feb 1, 2026.

On this one, Sgt Cherny takes sensitive police materials and forwards it to Bryan Lagarde at Project NOLA. Neither Lagarde or Project NOLA have contractual relationship with NOPD or the City of New Orleans. Why would Sgt. Cherny forward a PDF from the Max meeting?

Unfortunately, we don’t have the attachment. We don’t know what Sgt. Cherny sent. But we know that this email fits the standard format to request FRT. It matches bullet point 1. And it matches earlier emails of using the Max meeting to create FRT alerts

Looks like an illegal NOPD request for FRT to me!

But I filed two complaints against Cherny on Feb 1 , 2026. Here’s the better one

In this complaint, you can directly see SGT Cherny emailing Project NOLA to add James Gum to the Project NOLA facial recognition real time alert system with known FRT cameras at Decatur near Checkpoint Charlies.

The obvious is clear and direct request from SGT Cherny for James Gum to be added to the Project NOLA FRT real time alerting system.

NOPD lied and they’re covering up corruption. Is NOPD Lying? Are you okay with that? All the files are available here! Judge for yourself. Let me know!

Part 3 coming soon.
